Create a Recipe / Bill of Materials (BOM)
A Recipe (or Bill of Materials / BOM) is a template that defines what raw materials are needed and in what quantities to produce a specific finished product. For example, to manufacture 1 unit of 'Wooden Chair', you might need 4 Wooden Planks, 8 Screws, and 0.5 liters of Varnish. Once you save this recipe, you can reuse it for every production batch โ just enter the quantity to produce and all material requirements are auto-calculated. Recipes ensure consistency in production and make it easy to track material consumption.
Steps
- Navigate to Manufacturing > Recipe/BOM from the sidebar.
- Click "+ Create Recipe".
- Enter the Recipe Name (e.g., Finished Product A).
- Under Raw Materials, add all the raw material items with their required quantities.
- Under Finished Goods, add the output items that will be produced.
- Click "Save" to create the recipe.
Tip: Once a Recipe/BOM is created, you can reuse it for every manufacturing entry without re-entering the details.
Common Questions
A Recipe or BOM defines the raw materials and their quantities needed to produce a finished product. For example, to make 1 unit of Product A, you might need 2 kg of Material X and 500 ml of Material Y. Once defined, you can reuse this recipe for every production batch. It ensures consistency and saves time.
Yes, you can update a recipe at any time if your production process changes. Navigate to Manufacturing > Recipe/BOM, select the recipe you want to modify, update the raw materials or quantities, and save. Future manufacturing entries using this recipe will reflect the updated details.
Yes, you can create as many recipes as you need โ one for each finished product you manufacture. For example, a furniture maker can have separate recipes for chairs, tables, and shelves, each with their own list of raw materials and quantities.
Updating raw material quantities in a recipe only affects future manufacturing entries. Past production records that used the old recipe will retain their original material details, ensuring your historical data remains accurate.
